چکیده

Carr, Jennifer G. M.S., Purdue University, August 2014. Cut-off Values for Gait Variables to Detect Forelimb Lameness in Individual dogs. Major Professor: Gert Breur. The objective of this study was to characterize kinetic and kinematic variables in dogs with forelimb lameness and determine lameness cut-off values of gait variables using ROC analysis with observational gait analysis (OGA) as reference. Twenty client-owned dogs with unilateral lameness were included. Dogs underwent orthopedic exam, including OGA, and instrumented gait analysis (IGA; kinetic and kinematic analysis). Kinetic variables with the highest accuracy were PVF and %WD with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.73 and 0.92, respectively. Optimal cut-off value for PVF and %WD were ≤ 10.6 kgf (sensitivity 70% and specificity 75%) and ≤ 29.7% (sensitivity 90% and specificity 85%), respectively. Results of the ROC analysis indicate that KVs were most useful in determining lameness.

Inertial sensor-based system for lameness detection in trotting dogs with induced lameness.

Lameness detection can be challenging in dogs, as reflected in the reported low inter-rater agreement when visually assessing lameness. The aim of this study was to use an inertial sensor-based system to detect and quantify induced distal and proximal limb disturbances mimicking supporting and swinging limb lameness in dogs trotting on a treadmill by measuring vertical head and pelvic movement ...

Detection of lameness and determination of the affected forelimb in horses by use of continuous wavelet transformation and neural network classification of kinematic data.

OBJECTIVE To investigate continuous wavelet transformation and neural network classification of gait data for detecting forelimb lameness in horses. ANIMALS 12 adult horses with mild forelimb lameness. PROCEDURE Position of the head and right forelimb foot, metacarpophalangeal (ie, fetlock), carpal, and elbow joints was determined by use of kinematic analysis before and after palmar digital...

Effectiveness of slow motion video compared to real time video in improving the accuracy and consistency of subjective gait analysis in dogs

Objective measures of canine gait quality via force plates, pressure mats or kinematic analysis are considered superior to subjective gait assessment (SGA). Despite research demonstrating that SGA does not accurately detect subtle lameness, it remains the most commonly performed diagnostic test for detecting lameness in dogs. This is largely because the financial, temporal and spatial requireme...

Effect of exercise on kinetic gait analysis of dogs afflicted by osteoarthritis.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of moderate exercise on kinetic gait analysis using a force platform in dogs with hindlimb lameness due to osteoarthritis (OA). METHODS Ten control dogs (Control) and 10 dogs presented with chronic and stable hindlimb lameness (OA) were recruited. Dogs were subjected to force platform gait analysis to determine baseline data. They were thereafter trotted for ...

Temporal-spatial gait analysis by use of a portable walkway system in healthy Labrador Retrievers at a walk.

OBJECTIVE To establish a protocol to collect temporal-spatial gait analysis variables by use of a portable walkway system in Labrador Retrievers at a walk and to determine reference values. ANIMALS 56 healthy Labrador Retrievers. PROCEDURES 6 passes across the walkway (3 passes in each direction) were recorded. Inclusion criteria for a pass were that the dog was at a walk (velocity, 60.0 to...
